Diaries and blogs

Before the blogging concept came to, we had what we called diaries or journals.  They’re books where we keep our thoughts written.  Now that blogs have almost taken over, I was wondering if people still keep diaries – diaries that are personal and kept private, sometimes with a lock and key.

I never kept a diary.  The only thing close to a diary that I have is this blog.  But this blog is not at all private.  It doesn’t contain all my personal thoughts and secrets.  Would I get a diary (digital like Diary.com or not) to write down my most personal thoughts?  Probably not.  I’m too busy as it is.  But would you?  Or do you have one?

Do you have a blog, diary or both?

Blogs and Weddings

080806blogBlogs are a fast growing force in the wedding industry. You can find hundreds of wedding planning and inspiration blogs including blogs from real brides. Wedding magazines like Brides/Modern Bride/Elegant Bride and Martha Stewart Weddings, not only have websites nowadays, they also have blogs by their editors and staff. A lot of wedding photographers also have blogs set-up featuring their personal life and weddings they shot.

A great feature of blogs that I love is the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) or feeds that you can add to your favorite feed reader/aggregator. You can read the latest entries from your favorite blogs all in one place.

I have scoured the net for wedding planning blogs, I am now on the hunt for wedding photographers’ blogs. Photographers’ blogs are great for finding inspiration for your wedding. In addition, it also satisfies my craving for photography. If you have a favorite photographer who has a blog, please do share by leaving a comment.

FRIDAY READ: Team Sugar

080425sugarTeam Sugar is an online community where members “meet friends, discuss the latest gossip, share online shopping finds, dish on fashion, learn beauty secrets, swap delicious recipes, blog about their day and much, much more.”  My favorite is the site’s collection of “girlie” blogs of different niches including Shopping, Fashion, Money, Technology, and Weddings.  I’ve been a member of Team Sugar for a while and I find their articles or posts enjoyable and informative, not to mention more female-oriented.  I’m a female obviously.  My favorite sugars are GeekSugar, IDoSugar, and SavvySugar.

Believe me, I didn’t expect that lol.

blog stats

blog cartoonI was recently looking at the list of top earners at Payperpost, a paid blogging site. One of the top earners has a blog with huge traffic coming in. The blog’s alexa ranking is in the 100k’s while mine is at 800k’s. I browsed the blog and noticed that most, if not all of the posts are all personal – about the blogger’s everyday life.

I didn’t know that a lot of people are so interested in one’s life, one that is not even a celebrity. My blog contains templates, resources and other info that anyone can use, but I still get a lot less traffic than the aforementioned blogger. So what am I doing wrong?

Well, I tried and I was able to find a few answers to another question… What is this blogger doing right?

  • She actively participates in forums and other web communities.
  • She participates and hosts contests that helps promote her blog.
  • She goes out of her way with her posts, including posting videos of herself.
  • She befriends and stay in contact with a lot of people she meets online.
  • She created her own directory and forum.

FRIDAY READ: WPDesigner

WPDesignerIf you use WordPress, you would find WPDesigner very helpful.

WPDesigner has a long list of free WordPress themes.  The themes are one of the cleanest ones I’ve seen.  If you don’t want to get stuck in a particular theme and create your own, but don’t know where or how to start?  WPDesigner also has tutorials.  With the tutorials, you can learn to modify an existing theme or create your own from scratch.

FRIDAY READ: Digital Photography School

Digital Photography SchoolThe Digital Photography School blog is a collection of tips on how to improve your digital photography experience, eventually creating better digital photos.  The blog is aimed at less experienced digital camera owners.  Though I’ve seen more experienced photographers share their own tips and experiences on the blog.  The site has its own forum as well, where people can interact and learn from each other.  I recommend this site for anyone who own a digital camera, even if they’re really not into photography.

FRIDAY READ: Ikea Hacker

Ikea HackerI love Ikea.  They just have the best ideas for furniture, especially for small spaces like my place.  I also love just walking through their showroom and get ideas of room arrangements.  If you’re an Ikea fan and like creativity or just one of the two, you would like Ikea Hacker as much as I do.

Ikea Hacker features Ikea items that are, as the title implies, hacked or altered in some way.  The owners of these Ikea items use their creativity to customize or personalize the items to suit their style, personality, or needs.  You’ll see simple modifications like re-painting, to complex modifications like re-structuring.  I love the ones that are used in a way other than its intended use and still look pretty neat.
