We’re in a technology boom and more and more engaged couples now have their own wedding websites. Wedding websites can be very useful to guests. These websites usually include detailed info about the wedding and other events, travel info for out-of-town guests, gift registry, and even an RSVP form.
While there are a lot of sites that offer wedding website services and hosting for a fee, there are equally as many sites that offer it for free. Below are some that I know of:
www.weddingwire.com - my top choice
www.mywedding.com
www.weddingannouncer.com
www.projectwedding.com
www.brides.com
www.theknot.com
www.momentville.com
www.ewedding.com
Unfortunately, I couldn’t customize the free websites as much as I want to. So I decided to use one that I’m familiar with - the blog platform Wordpress.

-
I downloaded the Neoclassical theme and used it for the website.
-
I created my own header image and used it on the theme as a static header. The Neoclassical theme originally has rotating images for its header. You can upload your own images to rotate.
-
I downloaded the following plugins to help me transition the blog to a wedding website which I now call our wedding blogsite:
DMS Guestbook
Flickr Photo Album
FormBuilder
Google Docs Guestlist -
I created pages (not posts) for each page of our wedding blogsite (e.g. About Us, Travel Information, Events and Timeline). Wordpress allows you to password-protect the pages as well. I used the DMS Guestbook plugin to create the guestbook. I used the FormBuilder plugin to create Contact and other forms. I used Google Docs Guestlist (with a few tweaks to add meals, etc) to create the RSVP form.

All wedding updates that my bridal party and guests may find useful will be written and posted as posts. All recent posts will be listed on the right sidebar under Recent Updates.

Aylee,
Your wordpress wedding website looks pretty slick. Congrats on your engagment/wedding!
I totally understand your desire to customize. I was wondering if you played around with the custom theme builder on MomentVille. We launched it in mid-dec with the hope of allow couples to completely customize the look & feel of their site, and we’d really love to hear your feedback!
Best Regards
Geoff
