HPV (human papillomavirus) can now be prevented with a vaccine called Gardasil. HPV is a virus that may cause cervical cancer and genital warts. It is a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). The vaccine Gardasil is now available and recommended to women ages 9 to 26 before they become sexually active.

I heard from the TV morning talk show, The View, that Texas is planning to mandate the HPV vaccine in the state. If I was in the age range, I would not be sure if I would want to take the vaccine, much less be required by law to get it. I would want to have the option.
Here a few of my reasons I don’t want the HPV vaccine mandated:
- Gardasil is fairly new to make it mandatory, in my opinion. I am not willing to take the risk of taking a new vaccine without knowing its long-term effects.
- HPV is not as easily passed on from person to person as Measles, Mumps and Rubella. The Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine, otherwise called MMR are mandatory for children here in the US. But MMR can be contracted by sitting beside someone, by contact. HPV is an STD therefore sexual activity must occur to contract it.
- It’s not a cheap vaccine. Gardasil is a series of three shots. And each shot cost an average of $130 totalling to about $360. However, I am not sure if health insurances cover it.

Reminds me of a movie played by Robbin Williams, Man of The Year, that all these happens, cos the presidency and all the other campaigning costed them over $600million and sure enough, they owed it to some SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS.
So to speak, someone is in the coffers.
